MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club was helcl last evening in the clubroom. Municipal Buildings, Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presiding over a satisfactory attendance despite the inclement weather. Business dealt with included the consideration of a letter from the New Zealand Esperanto Association, which reported, inter alia, the formation of a new club at Ohakune and arrangements for the publication of a course of Esperanto lessons fortnightly in “The Radio Record.”

In a brief talk to members regarding the progress of Esperanto abroad, the secretary. Mr W. H. King, stated that the Duke of Connaught had consented to become a patron of the 30th British Esperanto Congress; that the Eighth World’s Education Congress to be held next month in Rio de Janeiro had admitted Esperanto as one of the official languages of the congress; that the Rotary Club of Columbia (U.S.A.) had employed Esperanto for sending greetings to Rotary Clubs in Japan. Dutch East Indies, Uraguay. Argentine and Mexico; and that 600 Esperantists from 24 countries had, at May 15, enrolled for the 31st Universal Congress which will take place in Bern from July 29 to August 5.

Considerable time was devoted to the practical application of Esperanto. This comprised a song in Esperanto (“My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean”), the use of a publicity poster, conversation. loud reading, translation and blackboard writing from dictation.

The meeting closed with the song “Nun Venas la Hor’ " (Now is the Hour).
