WORLD STANDARDISATION

GREAT BRITAIN’S NOTABLE LEAD,

Great Britain’s lead in world standardisation was demonstrated at the British Standards Institution’s annual general meeting which has just been held in London, presided over by Dr E. F. Armstrong. F.R.S. It was announced that since 1901, when the Institution 'was first formed, nearly three million British standard specifications have been sold all over the world. Of unusual interest is the British standard of “concert pitch" in music, which was accepted at a meeting held at Broadcasting House, London, by the delegates of ten nations, forming a committee, including the International Broadcasting Union.

“International agreement on industrial standards," says the report, “should do much to promote the freer passage of international trade by establishing a mutually agreed basis for the comparison of tenders emanating from different countries. At the same time, the exchange of views between the various experts working on a common problem tends to remove misunderstandings and frequently brings about friendships of a lasting nature.”
