LONDON QUOTATIONS
BUTTER MARKET SLOW.
CHEESE QUIET AND STEADY
The London butter market is slow, according to the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department, through the Dairy Board. The price of New Zealand butter last week rose to 1265, the first time since January that the guaranteed price level has been passed. The present price is from 4s to 5s a cwt above that ruling a year ago.
Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follow: — New Zealand, salted, 126 s (1245; a year ago, 121 s to 1225); unsalted, (124 s to 1255; a year ago, 122 s to 1235). Australian, salted, 117 s (116 s to 117 s); unsalted, 116 s to 117 s (116 s to 117 s). Danish. 109 s f.0.b.; 130 s to 131 s spot (105 s 125 s to 1275). Dutch, salted, 110 s to Ills (Ills to 112 s); unsalted, 110 s to Ills (Ills to 112 s); unsalted, 110 s to Ills, ex 113 s (Ills to 112 s).

Retail prices were unchanged, New Zealand at Is 2d and Danish at Is 3d a lb.
The present price of 126 s is equal to approximately 15.13 d per lb f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d per lb, f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d per cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 7.49 d per lb, f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week totalled 1278 tons, as against 1804 tons for the preceding week. The quantity in store on Friday, including 249 tons ex Port Wellington, was 5820 tons, compared with 7487 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter from store were 1930 tons, as against 1825 tons for the preceding week. The quantity in store was 5835 tons, compared with 4554 tons a year ago. The cheese market was quiet and steady last week, Friday’s closing quotations, with those for the preceding week in parentheses, being as follows: New Zealand, white, 64s 6d (64s 6d; a year ago, 69s 6d to 70s); coloured, 67s (675; a year ago, 69s 6d to 70s). Australian, white, 60s to 63s (59s to 625); coloured, 62s to 65s (62s to 655). Canadian, white and coloured, 63s (62s to 64s);'c.i.f., 64s (66s 6d); old season’s, white, 74s to 75s (755); coloured, 75s (755). South African, coloured, 57s to 625. The retail price of New Zealand cheese was unchanged at 8d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese from store last week were 15,299 crates, as against 21,060 crates for the preceding week. The quantity in store, including 8420 crates, ex Port Wellington, was 98,513 crates, compared with 76,972 crates a year ago. Cheese gradings in New Zealand for the week ended July 8 were 531 crates of white, and 534 crates of coloured, a total of 1065 crates.
