After saying that the oboe, according to one definition was a “wood-wind that nobody blows good.” Mr V. C. Peters, in an address to the ParentTeacher Association of the Christchurch Boys’ High School, mentioned that there are about 25,000 full symphony orchestras in the high schools of America. Mr Peters said that/hey compared favourably with professional orchestras. In discussing the general movement of music in America, one high school principal had remarked: “Teach a boy to blow a wood-wind instrument and he will not want to blow a safe.”
