Results of Hunt Club Meetings ROYAL TOAST SCORES IMPRESSIVELY AT HASTINGS LADY MIDDLEHAM WINS AT WAIMATE (BY “CARBINE.”) New Zealand racing at the weekend was confined to two Hunt Clubs, Hawke's Bay and Waimate. Fine weather prevailed and the attendance at each meeting was large. At Hawke's Bay the track was on the heavy side, while at Waimate the course was in first class condition. The Harold Russell Memorial Challenge Cup. which was the big event at Hastings, went to the third favourite, Royal Toast, who scored by fifteen lengths from Acorn. At Waimate the Morven Handicap was annexed by Lady Middleham, the third fancy, with Silver Slipper a close second. Parana, who went to the barrier first favourite in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, won that event by a head from Quinopal.

In keeping with the tone of other meetings held in the province lately, the annual race meeting of the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club held on the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s course at Hastings today was attended with complete success. The weather was springlike, with brilliant sunshine and a cloudless sky, and this encouraged a very big attendance. The totalisator turnover was £11,702 10s, being an increase of £3149 on the 1938 figures. Results: —
