GREAT INCREASE
A. SHIPBUILDING IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 13. The striking improvement in British shipbuilding is further shown in the latest Lloyd’s Register. The figures cover the three months which have passed since the Government announced its plans for assistance to merchant shipping and reflect the very large volume of orders for new tonnage, placed during that period. The returns show that/ at the end ofJune there was a total of 791.455 tons under construction in British ship yards, representing an advance of 194,552 tons, or nearly 25 per cent, compared with the previous quarter. By contrast tonnage of building in other countries showed a decline of 38,929 tons. The total tonnage under construction in the world at the end of June amounted to 2.859.292 tons, of which Britain’s share was 27.7 per cent.
