CZECH ASSETS

USE OF BLOCKED FUNDS SET-OFF AGAINST BRITISH CLAIMS. BENEFIT FOR REFUGEES. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 13. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, made a statement in the House of Commons at question time today regarding plans for the settlement of claims against the Czech assets blocked in London by the legislation passed in the spring. He said the intention was to draw up a scheme for using the assets as a setoff against the British claims. The scheme, which would be submitted to the House when it reassembled after the recess, would provide for repayment to the Treasury of £6,000,000 advanced to the former Czechoslovakia Government and for the use for the benefit of Czech refugees of the unexpended balance of the free gift of £4,000,000. It would also provide for dealing with the claims of British holders.
