TIMBER STANDARDS & COSTS PREVENTION OF EROSION. ADDRESS-IN-REPLY SPEECHES. (By Telegraph—Press Association. > WELLINGTON, This Day. In the House of Representatives today Mr A. E. Jull (Waipawa) referring to the Government's housing policy, said the houses being built were good, but in requiring all heart timber the specifications were a little extravagant, as they would lead to the wastage of millions of feet of timber every year.
Mr T. H. McCombs (Lyttelton): “Would you say the houses are too good?” Mr Jull: “I would say they are not too good for a working man. They are too dear, that’s all.” Mr J. B. F. Cotterill (Wanganui) said he had been very much interested in the report of the committee set up to consider soil erosion and he hoped the Government would adopt the committee’s recommendations. He also paid a tribute to the efforts which had been made to teach people to swim this season.
The House adjourned at 1 p.m,
