SENSATION IN PARIS

DETENTION OF TWO FRENCH JOURNALISTS

OF INTERNATIONAL REPUTE.

ACCEPTANCE OF GERMAN MONEY ALLEGED.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, July 13. The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says a sensation has been created by the detention of two French journalists of international repute, pending investigation into alleged acceptance of £56,000 and £200,000, respectively, from a German source. It is believed that the detention is a sequel to 31. Daladier’s recent pointed allusion lo German propaganda.

THE ARRESTED MEN

NO MEANS OF INFLUENCING POLICY.

PAPERS PLEAD IGNORANCE OF WHOLE AFFAIR.

(Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) PARIS, July 13.

The arrested journalists are the news editor of “Le Temps” and a member of "Figaro’s” advertising staff. “Figaro” explains that the latter’s position on the paper is not important and that he had no means of influencing editorial policy. “Le Temps” says its staff member involved was not responsible for the paper’s foreign services. Therefore the charge could relate only to matters outside professional duties. Both papers plead ignorance of the whole affair.
