ITALY OBJECTS

TRANSFER OF ALEXANDRETTA SANJAK

CONTRADICTION OF PURPOSES OF MANDATE.

“FULLEST RESERVE” EXPRESSED

By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) ROME, July 13.

Italy has sent a Note to France, stating that the cession of Hatay (the Sanjak of Alexandretta) is an obvious contradiction of the purposes of the mandate and contrary to the wishes of the population. The Note complained that the cession was negotiated without the knowledge or consent of Italy, which is one of the Powers that handed over the mandate to France in 1920. Italy uierefore expressed complete and the fullest reserve regarding the contents of the new accord.
