SOAP BOX DERBY

UNUSUAL SPORTING EVENT. A sporting event, unusual in Masterton, though common enough overseas, will be held on Saturday afternoon by the boys of the Mo Katoa Scout Troop. It is to be a “Soap Box Derby,” a race among drivers of those queer contraptions which are so popular among boys wherever hills are handy. For Saturday’s event the boys have manufactured/many of the very latest streamline, sporting models, wooden boxes and wooden wheels. The great event is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. from Manuka Street on the Golf Links Hill to Third Street. Already over 20 cars have been entered. Normal motorists are warned to keep clear of that vicinity on Saturday afternoon. Pedestrians, too, will find it safest to keep close to the footpaths.
