At the wool sales, 7,672 bales were offered, including 4,029 from New Zea-land,-and 6.560 were sold. There was a good selection, with a large supply of New Zealand crossbreds, and animated competition, the demand being due to military requirements New Zealapd greasy Merinos, Balmoral, realised 9Jd to lOd; scoured crossbred, N.Z. WMA, 14d to 141 d; slipe halfbred combing, lambs, Canterbury, Hid to 15d; Waitara, 91d to 14-Jd; GRC/WRF, 14.1 d: slipe crossbred combing, lambs, WFM/T bands, lOld to 14;d; Canterbury, lid to 15d; slipe crossbred, lambs, H in diamond. 14d to 15d.

Compared with the close of the last series, scoured Merinos are on a par, greasy Merinos five per cent, scoured and greasy fine crossbreds five to ton per cent, medium and coarse crossbred, 15 to 20 per cent, and slipes 71 per cent higher.

GOOD OPENING STRONG ALL ROUND COMPETITION. COARSE CROSSBREDS IN DEMAND. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated July 11:—“The auctions opened here today with a large attendance of buyers. There was strong competition all round, particularly for medium and coarse crossbreds. The Home buyers were operating freely on account of Government requirements. Compared with the closing rates of last sale, we quote:—Greasy merino, best, Id per lb higher; average, Id per lb higher; fine halfbreds, 50/565, Id pei’ lb higher; extra fine halfbreds, 48/50s, lid to 2d per lb higher; fine crossbreds, 46/48s, Ijd to 2d per lb higher; medium, 44/465, lid to 2d per lb higer; coarse, 40/445, l|d to 2d per lb higher; low, 36/40s, lid to 2d per lb higher. The demand for slipe wool generally is good, prices being j|d to Id per lb higher. Scoured merinos are unchanged. As at present-arranged, the sales will close on July 26.
