AWATEA KEYS

TAKEN BY SHIP’S CADET AS SOUVENIRS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The excuse given by Joseph Spencer, a ship's cadet aged 18, for stealing an electric lift control key and a brass door key, from the Awatea, was that he wanted them as souvenirs, said De-tective-Sergeant Doyle, prosecuting in Court today. Had the articles not been recovered, he added, considerable inconvenience would have been entailed to the ship’s company. When located, accused had the articles in his possession. He was discharged from the ship yesterday for drunkenness. Mr J. L. Stout. S.M., admitted Spencer to probation for twelve months.
