TOO MANY TRUCKS
IN WAIRARAPA DISTRICT
ACCORDING TO TRANSPORT AUTHORITY. ' CARRIERS ADVISED TO FORM ONE FEDERATION. After pointing out today instances m which certain applications for amendments, covering much the same requests, were opposed by carters associations while other similar ones were not opposed, Mr J. P. A. Skoglund, No 2 Transport Authority, said such a position placed him in a quandary. Why was preference given to one rather than the other? he asked. “I am of opinion that there are too many trucks in this district now to do the work that is offering,” said Mr Skoglund. “If transport in this district were properly organised we could do with at least 20 per cent less trucks, I am certain of that.” He added that for that reason he refused several applications for amendments. "When the associations herd care to get together and form one big federation and try to co operate one with the other I am perfectly satisfied that they will find that what I have said is correct,” said Mr Skoglund. “I hope that it will not be many weeks before the carriers in this district will learn some sense and get together and make one big federation, which would greatly assist them, he himself as the authority and transport generally in the country.”
