AMERICAN WARSHIPS
NEW BATTLESHIPS NAMED. CONSTRUCTION OF TWO MORE PROJECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, July 11. The Navy's 45.000-ton battleships for which the shipyards at New York and Philadelphia are at present being enlarged, were today named lowa and New Jersey. The Navy Department will probably ask Congress next session for two more, thus forming the world’s most powerful battleship division. An unusual honour was accorded the late Secretary of the Navy, Mr Swanson, after the State funeral today, when it was announced in the Senate that destroyer 443 at present under construction would be named U.S.S. Swanson.
