FATHER OF THE ROAD
MR T. FOX FAREWELLED. RETIRING AFTER LONG SERVICE. A pleasing ceremony took place in Masterton this morning when the veteran commercial traveller. Mr Tom Fox, of Messrs Abbot Oram and Co Ltd, Wellington, was entertained by a representative gathering of the commercial community of this town, prior to his retirement from business. The function took the form of a morning tea at Messrs Hugo and Shearer's rooms, and in addition to the attendance of representatives of local business firms there were also present a number of Mr Fox's fellow travellers. Eulogistic reference was made to the outstanding ability, tact and courtesy of Mr Fox, and general regret was expressed at his projected retirement. It was mentioned at the gathering that Mr Fox had been 40 years “on the road,” and that for 32 years he had represented Abbot Oram and Co. He was looked upon as the “Father of the Road,” and a leader in his branch of the profession. All present wished Mr Fox every future success, health and happiness. Mr Fox feelingly returned thanks to the gathering for the kindly thought which had prompted them in arranging the farewell tea.
