ADVANCE IN BUTTER PRICES.

CHEESE MARKET STEADY

A further advance of 4s a cwt in the price of New Zealand choicest salted butter last week brought Friday s quotation to 1245, which is only 3d below the guaranteed price level. The latest price is the highest shown since the end of January and for the first time for about the same period it is now higher than those ruling last year. The guaranteed price has been exceeded on only about two occasions during this season. The cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board describes the market as firm. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the preceding week in parentheses, are as follow: ■ New Zealand: Salted. 124 s (119 s to 120 s; a year ago, 121 s); unsalted, 124 s to 125 s (119 s to 120 s; a year ago, 122 s to 1235).

Australian: Salted: 116 s to 117 s (113 s to 114 s); unsalted. 116 s to 117 s (112 s to 113 s).

Danish: 105 s f.0.b.; 125 s to 127 s spot (104 s 124 s to 1255). Dutch: Salted and unsalted: Ills to 112 s (109 s

Irish: Cream, salted, 121 s (118 s Lithuanian: Unsalted, 112 s to 113 s (109 s to 110 s).

Polish: Salted and unsalted. 109 s to 110 s (107 s to 108 s).

Retail prices were unchanged, New Zealand at Is 2d and Danish at Is 3d a lb. The present price of 124 s is equal to approximately 14.81 d a lb. f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d a lb., f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 7.49 a lb f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week were 1804 tons, as against 1368 tons during the previous week. The quantity in store, including 339 tons ex-Remuera and Akaroa. was 5077 tons, compared with 4910 tons a year ago.

Australian: White 595/62s (60s/625); coloured, 625/65s (625/645). Canadian: White' and coloured, 62s to 645; C.1.R., 66s 6d (675); old season’s C.1.F., 75s (725/735). The retail price of New Zealand cheese was unchanged at 8d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese from store last week were 21,060 crates compared with 15,570 crates during the preceding week. The quantity in store was 101,317 crates, as against 85,442 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese were 3074 boxes, the quantity in store being 85,406 boxes, as against 68,621 boxes a year ago.

Gradings of cheese in New Zealand for the week ended July 1 were 1314 crates of white and 532 crates of coloured, a total of 1846 crates.
