“A MYSTERIOUS THING"
MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT. CORONER'S COMMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. July 5. A verdict that Peter Imlay Frederick Saunders, aged 21. an accountant, died of injuries to his skull and laceration of the brain in a motor car that ran off the Hayward’s-Pahautanui road and capsized on May 14 was returned by the Coroner (Mi- Gilbertson). He described the accident as a mysterious thing. "The driver probably dropped off to sleep." said the Coroner. "That is the only possible explanation of it.” In his evidence the driver. Sydney Archibald Wiren. said the car belonged to Shelly. Shelly was asleep in the back seat almost all the way from Wanganui, and deceased who was in front with witness dozed off also and would have been asleep at the time of the accident. Both witness and Shelly said that they had not stopped at any hotels and had no drink in the car or before leaving on the trip.
