AUCKLAND DRIVERS

MINISTER OF LABOUR ASKED TO ACT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 5.' As a result of a meeting that filled the Trades Hall last night, the Auckland Drivers’ Union decided to request the Minister of Labour to prevail upon the Employers' Association to meet the union in a disputes committee for the purpose of discussing clauses in the award which are in dispute. Messrs Matthews and Muller reported on a recent visit to Wellington and interviews with the Minister and the Employers’ Association. According to an official statement issued today on behalf of the executive an assurance was given by Mr Webb that he would do all in his power to expedite the hearing of,the dispute relating to the 40-hour week. This was unanimously accepted by the men, who indicated appreciation of this assurance by a resolution. The meeting decided to circulate the drivers’ case throughout New Zealand.
