BRIDE DESERTED

WEDDING ARRANGED IN CHRISTCHURCH. NO APPEARANCE OF GROOM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. With arrangements completed for her wedding in Christchurch yesterday, a Greymouth girl found herself without the man to whom she had been engaged for the past six months. The bridegroom, who is said to have come originally from Southland, failed to appear. Romance for the girl came about twelve months ago, when a tall young sawmill worker first met her in Greymouth. About six months ago they became engaged. The last occasion on which me girl saw her fiancee was last Sunday week. Arrangements were then made for the pair to come to Christchurch early last week to complete the formalities for their marriage. It was arranged that the man should meet the girl at Stillwater and come on to Christchurch by train with her. He did not turn up and the girl came on alone. As soon as she reached Christchurch she communicated with her parents on the West Coast and inquiries were made for the missing bride j groom. No trace of him, either on this side or on the Coast, could be found. Clinging fast to the belief that her fiancee would put in an appearance on the day planned for the wedding, the girl went ahead with preparations for the ceremony. Her family arrived from Greymouth for the wedding. All day long they waited patiently, in the hope that the man would appear. The parents of the girl and friends here in Christchurch waited through the night until the rail car left fc.- Greymouth at 2.30 this morning, still hoping that the bridegroom would put in a lastminute appearance, but the man has not been seen or heard of since last Sunday week.
