Quist (Australia) defeated Hernandez (Mexico), 11/9, 6/3, 6/2. The Quist-Hernandez match was a battle royal in the first set in which the Mexican led 3/2 and 8/7, after which the Mexican’s lack of resistance showed. He was worn out in the last two, while Quist was cool and placing beautifully. Hernandez's service was strong and his backhand excellent. Bromwich defeated Tapia 6/1, 6/3, 6/1. _____________
