In the qualifying rounds in the open golf championship at St. Andrews old course the best scores were: J. Bruen, Lawson, Little, 69; Norman Sutton, 71; R. French, B. Nunneley, A. Castanon. 77; Baillieu (Australia), 73. Over the new course the best scores were: —P. Alliss, 69; W. Hastings, 71; J. Bulla, S. Fields, Easterbrook, M. Pose, R. A. Whitcombe, J. McLean, G. Knight, W. Cox. 72; Cotton, 73; Locke, 74; D. Collins (Wairarapa). 78. The committee recognised the scores of Bruen, Little and Alliss as records. CENTENNIAL TOURNEY. ARRANGEMENTS. WELL IN HAND. WELLINGTON, This Day. The New Zealand Golf Council has the arrangements for the Centennial tourney well in hand and a draft programme is being discussed with the Miramar Club on whose course the championships will be played. Napier has put in a request to conduct the 1941 championship meeting, but is being advised that according to the rota that tourney will go to the South Island.
