1( WAIRARAPA GAMES. SATURDAY’S RESULTS. is The Wairarapa basketball contest? were continued on Saturday with the t, following results: — A Grade. Stars 29, v W.H.S.O.G. 2. lona 34, v Collegians 16. 3 B Grade. lona 30 v Belvedere 16. 1 College Colts 10 v Greytown 7. r Carterton 18 v Hospital 11. i ’ r A GRADE. E STARS v OLD GIRLS. ; The passing by Stars was excellent ’ and was the best exhibition of their ’ combination that they have shown this ’ season. The field work in the goal third f L was good but although E. Jones shoti i quite well the shooting as a whole was poor on both sides. The centre players were evenly matched and J. Palmer played exceptionally well considering she has been away from the game for some time. A. Burgess, M. Gadsby and R. Hawke played a good defence game for Stars. Although the centre third played well the shooting for Old Girls was very poor and the defence missed L. Renner.' The game was not so one ■ •
sided as the score indicates. lONA v COLLEGIANS. The lona team showed, especially in the first half, very good combination, the goal-throwers, B. Stitt, R. Percy and P. Kilminster, being on top of their form and at the beginning had the game all their own way, with excellent short, fast, passes in the centre third. After a scrappy first half the Collegians settled down to a much steadier game, especially in the centre which showed a much improved play on the first half. I. Stevens and J. Gemmel shot well for Collegians. B GRADE. COLLEGE COLTS v GREYTOWN. For College A. Stains and L. Ducket played well in the centre while D. Priest has the makings of a first class defence player. H. Douglas shot well and the College Colts deserved their win. The Grey town team played well and showed a marked improvement on previous games, especially in positional play although there is still too much personal contact. lONA v BELVEDERE.
The lona forwards played well, especially C. Brady. The defence was rather scrappy although it could with a little more practice and combination become a really good third. The centre combination was quite good. The Belvedere forwards, although their shooting was good, were inclined to pass too much under the goal instead of shooting. CARTERTON v HOSPITAL. This was quite a good game but was marred by.far too much personal contact on both sides, especially in the centre. C. Moynham, playing centre for Hospital, played a good game. For Carterton J. Tinsley and J. Zillwood both played well with some good in- 1 terceptions. The goal throwing on both 1 sides was well up to standard.
