DROWNED IN CREEK

CHILD’S TRAGIC FATE IN MARLBOROUGH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, This Day. Alan John Smith, aged two years and four months, the son of Francis, Leslie. Smith, garage proprietor, Springlands, was found drowned in a small creek near his home on Saturday afternoon. The child had been missing for only a few minutes before a search began, but some time elapsed before the tragic discovery was made by his father. It is apparent that the child slipped down a bank into the water and became covered with weed, which accounted for the fact that it was not until he had made a second visit to the spot that Mr Smith located the body. It was then too late for successful resuscitation, although artificial respiration was applied. 4
