HOCKEY

WAIRARAPA CHAMPIONSHIPS. SENIOR COMPETITION. Ideal conditions prevailed for the continuation of the Wairarapa Hockey Association’s fixtures on Saturday, which saw the conclusion of the second round in the senior competition. By defeating Dalefield, Carterton still hold pride of place with an unbeaten record. Hastwells met Kiwi on the Lansdowne grounds and were all out to win by 3/2. Hastwells gained a lead of 3/0 in the first spell, but a change in the Kiwi team had the desired effect, and Hastwells were hard pressed to maintain their early lead. The games resulted as follow:— Hastwells beat Kiwi 3/2. Carterton beat Dalefield 6/3. Wesley a bye. POSITION OF TEAMS.

JUNIOR COMPETITION. The second round in the junior competition was commenced on Saturday' and as anticipated some great games were seen. The surprise of the day was the defeat of College by Wesley, the final score reading 3/1. These two teams have had some splendid tussles with College just a little too good, but on Saturday Wesley settled down to serious but open hockey which gave them the advantage. Both teams turned on hockey of a high standard with College having a slight advantage territorially. The game was very fast and the most noticeable mistakes were made by the College backs yvho were seen missing with speculating shots which let the Wesley forwards through. Another surprise was the defeat of Carterton by' Dalefield to the tune of 3/1. Dalefield are playing attractive hockey and though they are only little players will hold their own with the best. Greytown were responsible for the next surprise when they defeated College Old Boys by 4/3. College Old Boys, however, were unlucky in having to play' short, Results: — Wesley beat College 3/1. Greytown beat College Old Boys 4/3. Dalefield beat Carterton 3/1. POSITION OF TEAMS.

THIRD GRADE. Wesley beat College 13/3. Greytown Scouts beat Carterton 1/0. WELLINGTON v WAIRARAPA. On Saturday next the Wellington senior A and B teams will be seen in games against Wairarapa on the Lansdown grounds. Wellington is sending the best available teams which are sure to put up a great display. The sole selector for Wairarapa. Mr G. Fisher. has not yet announced the teams to represent Wairarapa. but they' will be published in the “Times-Age" on Wednesday next.
