WOOL AND WAVES
LATEST FASHION DECREES. Woollens have taken front place among fashion fabrics. At first confined to sports wear, they are now also used for more formal garments, including sumptuous evening gowns, says “International Textiles.” Some time ago there were successful shows of negligees, nighties and other lingerie in fine woollen fabrics made specially for the purpose, and during the week of the Paris openings Jacques Heim, in collaboration with the International Wool Secretariat, showed a collection of all-wool beachwear. Monsieur Heim considers wool to be eminently suitable for beachwear. Wool is naturally elastic and absorbs moisture without being unpleasantly cold to the touch. The models, which are youthful and attractive. have proved him right. An exceptionally novel touch is imparted by the' “corsair” cut. The “Long John Silver” model, for instance, with a short sleeved bolero in black woollen jersey and skirted shorts reaching almost to the knee, has a distinctive character. The brassiere top and the draped sash at the waist are in redspotted woollen surah. Very smart are the beach ensembles featuring three-quarter length flannel slacks in blue and white stripes, with a blue woollen blouse. Several models are in fine woollen voile in a printed floral design, the black and white tartan serge shorts oeing cut on straight lines and we ten with a shirt-blouse in transparent woollen voile. The swim suits in checked jersey are all novel and striking. Treasure Island, High Wind, and Yo Ho are three more of the seventeen corsair beachwear novelties designed by Heim.
