SMALL FIRE LOSS
MASTERTON BOARD MEETS. YEAR’S ESTIMATES APPROVED. The quarterly meeting of the Master- ( ton Fire Board was held last night. Those present were Mr Trevor Beetham (chairman) and Messrs W. Candy, W. Kemp. L. A. Hutton and K. Mason. Advice was received from the Department of Internal Affairs that the board’s estimates for the year ending March 31. 1940. had been approved. The Wairarapa Hospital Board wrote acknowledging a report submitted by the Superintendent (Mr T. B. Clark) on fire-fighting equipment at the Masterton Hospital, and stated that the report had been referred to the Finance Committee. The board extended congratulations to the Superintendent on his comprehensive report, which it said was very valuable, and would be of great assistance to the hospital authorities.. Nineteen calls were received during the quarter, reported the Superintendent. They consisted of street alarms three; exchange telephone, 13. and citizen at the station door, three. There was only one malicious false alarm, and the actual number of fires was two. The value of the property on which fires occurred was estimated at £3Ol and the value of the contents of premises on which fires occurred was esti ■ mated at £l2l 10s, a total of £422 10s. The insurance on property on which fires occurred —buildings—amounted to £lOO. and the insurance on contents was nil. The loss to insurance companies—buildings—was nil and the contents loss was also-nil. Loss not in - sured amounted to £2 15s. The time and date stamping apparatus in connection with the fire alarm switch board had now been installed and was in working order.
