PIG BREEDERS
ANNUAL MEETING OF N.Z. ASSOCIATION. SOME QUESTIONS OF POLICY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, June 29. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association, Mr James Simpson was elected unopposed as South Island representative, Mr H. T. Thurston was selected by lot as the representative of the Wellington North Ward, after tieing with MiBickers, and Mr G. Jamieson was reelected for South Auckland. Mr D. G. S. Ross was reappointed president and Messrs G. M. Whitelock (Palmerston\ North) and I. G. Morrison (Whangarei) as vice-presidents. The following will form the executive:— Messrs H. L. West, Thurston and Whitelock. The embargo on the importation of pigs was criticised by the president, who considered that English quarantine conditions were a sufficient safeguard.
An advanced registration scheme proposed by the. Government was discussed and the opinion was expressed that the Government should bear the expense, as it was collecting a levy |on pigs. , Strong exception was taken to a I suggestion that pigs offered at a pri- ' vate stud pig breeders’ sale should be inspected and passed before being sold. It was resolved that the incoming council circulate among the branches a scheme that could be easily operated.
