RELIEF FINANCE

REDUCTION IN UNITED STATES. SENATE & HOUSE AT ODDS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. WASHINGTON, June 29. Barely 24 hours before the closing of the fiscal year, when the Treasuryfound itself without funds to continue the relief programme in the succeeding year, the Senate in an all-night session approved an 1,818,000,000 dollars measure, the principal parts of which have already been passed by the House. However, because the Senate increased the appropriation by 73,000,000 dollars and introduced a large number of controversial features into the Bill it is feared a protracted delay may attend the inter-House conference neces - sary to straighten out the many existing differences of opinion concerning* what relief projects should be discontinued and what sums should be spent on those to be continued. The appropriation, which is 800,000,000 less than the previous year's, allows 1,477,000.000 for the Works Progress Administration and 123,000,000 for the National Youth Administration.
