TEMPERANCE LEAGUE
MEETING IN MASTERTON. INTERESTING DEBATE. The June meeting of the Masterton Young People’s Temperance League was held on Tuesday in the Methodist Bible vaa'Ss rooms there 'being a good attendance. The ’meeting opened with a short, devotional service which was followed by 'business of the meeting. A suggestion by Mr A. Handyside re • garding the .posting of notices relating to Temperance in some place in the town, was considered to be of great value and this matter is be-, ing dealt with accordingly. A debate was held on the question' “That Prohibition is an Offence against Personal Liberty.” The speakers for Were Messrs -Clark and Coleman and those against were Messrs Handyside and McCurdie. These four -speakers provided an excellent debate, each side attacking the other very vigorously. The matter was latei’ thrown open for general discussion and those present availed themselves df this opportunity. The meeting closed with supper which ,was provided by the ladies. The next meeting will lake Ihe fform of a social and all members and intending me.mbers are invited to attend.
