The teams were piped on to the ground by the Wairarapa College Pipe Band.

The Wairarapa College, with the wind behind them, opened up brilliantly and pressed down on the Palmerston North 25, from where Hibbs ran around ori the blind side of a scrum to cross the Palmerston North line and score a good try. The kick at goal failed. Wairarapa College 3, Palmerston North 0.

Play continued to be of a high standard and a passing rush by the Wairarapa College ended in Dale going over the line, the kick at goal just missing. Wairarapa College 6, Palmerston North 0.
