TURNBULL CUP COMPETITION. - For the first race of the season for the Turnbull Cup a strong contingent of Kiatere members and supporters will make the trip to Wellington on Saturday as the guests of the Olympic Harrier Club. This race, which is for a team of ten men, is easily the most interesting and enjoyable one on the programme, and being run over country quite different from any here, the issue is always in doubt. As in previous years, the two-lap trail of five miles commences from the dressing sheds at Lyall Bay and after about half a mile along the beach through heavy wet sand, leads into a long stretch of undulating scrub country, and on to the main obstacle of the day —a stiff climb over one of the surrounding foothills. Dropping down from here a left turn is made on to hard road, and after about 11 miles of this, the trail again leads in the scrub for the second lap. The finishing point is usually taken on a road running parallel with the beach and close to the dressing sheds. ,As can be seen, from this description sand shoes are essential for this course. At the conclusion of the run afternoon tea will’ be served and in the evening members will be guests of the Olympic Club at the Majestic Theatre. A bus will leave the Post Office at 11.30 a.m. sharp, arriving at Lyall Bay about 2.45 p.m. This will allow the run to commence at approximately 3 o’clock.
