REPLACEMENT OF STREET TREES. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society was held last night. Those present were Mr E. W. Payton (chairman), A. W. Reynolds, honorary secretary, F. C. Daniell, H. Major, A. J. Towns, A. Keith, L. Robinson. 11. E. Gardner and Miss Maunsell. It was decided to place on record the society’s appreciation of the work done by Mr F. E. .1. Ractliffe, who has relinquished the position of chairman of tho South Park Society. The State Housing Department was complimented on having had the overhead power lines placed at the rear of its new houses. Mr Robinson pointed out that this would eliminate tree pruning. It was decided to replace 64 trees in the streets of Masterton this year. The majority of these died through drought. Accounts amounting to £l7 were passed.
