MASTERTON SALE.

IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES. The Associated Live Stock Auctioneers’ Association report on their weekly Masterton sale held yesterday, as follow: — A large entry of all classes of sheep and a medium one of cattle came forward and were offered to a large and representative attendance. Competition throughout was keen and all prices showed a decided improvement on those ruling of late. Included in the entry were some very attractive lines of woolly white-face wether hoggets and these showed an improvement on last week of at least Is to 2s per head. One attractive line offered on account of Mr G. McKay topped the sale at 13s 7d. Other good lines made from Ils 11s 6d to 12s There was also a big improvement in the store wether market, these showing an advance of Is to Is 6d per head. Fat sheep were also better, and breeding ewes remained firm on last week. A total clearance was effected under the hammer at prices which must be considered very satisfactory. Cattle were also in-de-mand, fat cows making up to £7 17s 6d. and weaner steers to £3 10s. The following list will indicate valuees:—Fat ewes, 14s, 15s 3d, 16s; light fat ewes, 12s, 12s 9d to 13s Id; 'best fat ewes, 18s; fat wethers (good), 18s 6d; light ditto, 15s 6d to 16s 3d; fat lambs, 14s, 15s to 16s 4d.; two-tooth wethers, 14s, 14s 7d to 14s 10d; medium ditto, 12s 6d, 13s to 13s 3d; good wholly wether lambs, Ils, 12s to 13s 6d; medium ditto, 9s, 9s 6d to 10s; Small ditto, 7s lOd to 8s 7d; b.f. 2-tooths, 13s 3d to 13s 6d; m.a. ewes, r.w.r., 12s sd, 14s 7d to 15s; shorn wether hoggets, 7s 4d, 7s 9d to 8s lOd; small ewe hoggets, 10s; b.f. hoggets, 9s 6d, 10s Id, Ils to Ils lOd. Heavy prime cows, £7 17s 6d; fat cows, £6 17s 6d; unfinished ditto, £5; medium 3-year-old P.A. steers £6 4s; store station cows, P.A. and shorthorn, £3 12s 6d; weaner steers, £3 10s; weaner heifers, £2 3s.
