Mr and Mrs E. Berry, of Pongaroa, are visitors to Hukanui.
Dr. Helen Cowie, of Masterton, left Wellington, for the south last night. Mrs J. Callender, of Carterton, is at present staying at Kent House, Colombo Road, Masterton.
Miss B. I. Harrington, of Hukanui, has left to take up nursing in the Wellington Hospital. The friends of Mrs Targett, of Hukanui, will regret to hear she is an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital. Mr and Mrs H. R. W. Beetham of Lansdowne, are staying at Paraparaumu Beach.
Miss Rona Rutherford, Makuri, and Miss Joan Sutherland, Hinakura, are visiting the South Island. Mrs Guy Ramsden, of Rangitumau, who has been on a visit to Hawke’s Bay, has returned home. Mr and Mrs L. D. Paterson are Wellington visitors to Masterton and are staying at the Hotel Midland.
Mrs H. C. L. Robinston, of Tararua Street, Masterton, was a visitor to Paparapaumu Beach at the weekend. Mrs E. W. Bunny, Oaonui, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Arkwright, Marton, has returned to Masterton.
Mr and Mrs J. 11. Mills, who have been staying with Mr and Mrs A. P. Bennett of Renall Street, Masterton, have returned to Eastbourne.
Mr and Mrs N. McKay, of Cornwall Street, Masterton and Mr and Mrs Arthur McKay, Gladstone, were visitors to Marton, for the McKay-Brice wedding which took place yesterday. Miss Vivienne Bunny, of Masterton, left last night by the steamei’ Rotorua from Christchurch on a trip to England. The Rev A. T. Thompson and Miss Robina Thompson also left by the Rotorua for England.
Misses Edith Mannell and Betty Mannell have left Masterton to take up positions at the children’s health camp at Otaki. Before their departure Miss Edith Mannell, who had been on the staff of Messrs C. Smith Ltd for the past six years, was presented by the firm with a handsome travelling rug. The death occurred at the Sacred Heart Convent, Wanganui, on Sunday, of Sister Mary Catherine Lafferty, in her seventy-fifth year. Sister Lafferty was born in County Donegal, Ireland, in 1865, and came to New Zealand. She entered the convent jn 1882, and since then had taught in the various branches of the order. She has two sisters in the convent in Wanganui. Nine years ago Sister Lafferty met with an accident and had been an invalid since.
