CROQUET CLUB . ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age" Special.) , The annual meeting of the Grey town Croquet Club was held last night. Mrs R. G. Vile (president) presided. Mrs A. Haigh presented the report which stated that the club had a credit balance of £l5. The season had been a poor one owing to lack of interest taken in the game. Officers for the ensuing season were elected as follows: —President, Mrs R. G. Vile (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Brunton and H. G. Carter; secretary, Mrs A. Haigh; match committee, Mesdames Stevens, Horton, Carter; delegate to the Wairarapa Centre, Mrs A. Gregor. A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mrs Thompson, Senr., and Mrs C. Slater, who had both been valuable members of the club. The subscription for first-year players was fixed at 15s. After the meeting the members were entertained at bridge. CONSTABLE ATTACKED TWO ARRESTS MADE. Yesterday afternoon Constable A. Gregor arrested a man for alleged assault. On his way home/ last night two men attacked the constable near his home. Constable Gregor called out and Mr G. Scrimgeour came to his assistance. The two men made off in the dark. Men who are alleged to be concerned in the affair were later arrested, one near Carterton and the other on his way to Martinborough. Constable Gregor was badly injured about the head and body and Dr Oakey ordered him to remain in bed. At the S.M. Court this morning, Messrs A. W. Horton and H. G. Carter being on the Bench, Kenneth Sullivan and Charles de Latour were charged with having assaulted Constable Gregor and having caused him bodily harm. Senior-Sergeant Doggett, of Masterton, applied for a remand for seven days. The request was granted, and accused are to appear in Wellington! Bail was fixed at £2OO each and one surety of £2OO. ASSAULT CHARGE ' ACCUSED SENT TO GAOL. At a sitting of the S.M. Court this morning, Messrs A. W. Horton and H. G. Carter, J’s.P., being on the bench, Timothy Sullivan was charged with haxing assaulted Michael Bouzaid and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. School Games. The secondary departments of the Featherston and Greytown District High Schools met at Greytown yesterday afternoon in basketball and football contests. In the basketball games Featherston A defeated Greytown A, 26 to 10, and Featherston B defeated Grey town B, 19 to 6. In the football match Featherston won by 8 points to 3. GOLF COMPETITIONS MEDAL AND BOGEY ROUND. The following is the draw for second round of bogey competition and an L.G.U. medal round to be played by the ladies at Greytown on Saturday:— " Seniors and intermediates; Mrs Thomson v. Mrs Maddison (12.42); Mrs Gregor v. Miss J. Feast (12.45); Mrs ,G. Ingley v. Mrs Ross (12.48); Mrs R. Ingley v. Miss Wood (12.51); Mrs C. Ingley v. Miss Kiernan (12.54); Mrs Ward v. another (12.57). Juniors, to play 11 holes commencing from No. 5: Miss Askew v. Miss Wiggins (at 12.40 p.m.); Mrs Wiggins v. Miss Skeet (12.45); Miss Stevens v. Mrs Dunnet (12.50); Mrs Nicholson v. another (12.57). The return visit from Waiwetu Golf Club will take place at Greytown at the weekend.
