ST. JOHN AMBULANCE CONCERT
With the winter sports season in full swing the members of the St. John Ambulance Brigades are being kept very busy rendering first-aid to injured players. Footballers and hockey players all appreciate this splendid service but the work cannot be carried on indefinitely without financial assistance from the public. New recruits naturally expect to be equipped with uniforms before appearing on public duty and this alone means heavy expenditure for the division. Each division is expected to be self-support-ing and to obtain funds an excellent concert is being arranged, to be held in the Opera House, Masterton, on Thursday, July 13. Items will be given by the boys of the cadet division, who are being trained by Mrs Edna Paterson, L.T.C.L., in sketches, campfire songs and playettes, and leading local artists have generously offered to assist. A feature will be a first-aid display on the stage by the cadets under the supervision of the Cadet Superintendent, Mr C. S. McQuade. This will be an opportunity for the public to see for themselves the splendid training these boys receive in junior first-aid. These boys compete annually in the New Zealand I First-Aid Championships held in Wellington and last year the junior team obtained second place in a contest in I which 19 teams took part. It is hoped this- year to be able to send both senior and junior teams to the championships, but this cannot be done without financial assistance. The whole-heart-ed support of the public is therefore anticipated and patrons are assured of an excellent evening's entertainment.
