After having declared at the overnight total of 5 for 404, England dismissed West Indies for a second innings total of 225, and batting again scored 100 for the loss of two wickets, thus winning the first test by eight wickets. Headley played a stubborn innings. He took 120 minutes to reach 50. He commenced shakily but later settled down to play attractive cricket. In addition to reaching his thousand runs, Headley scored his second chanceless century of the match in 225 minutes. England was left with 110 minutes to get the necessary runs for a win. but accomplished the task. Scores: — WEST INDIES. First Innings 277 Second Innings.
