INTERNATIONAL ANARCHY

MOST DISTURBING FACTOR. If we stand back for a moment from the contemplation of immediate anxieties it is precisely this tendency toward international anarchy that is the most disturbing factor in the situation, writes Mr Anthony Eden in a recent article. The nations are everywhere on a war footing and confidence in international engagements has not for many decades sunk so low. Such has been the inevitable effect of recent acts of aggression callously perpetrated before the world. It has driven Britain to undertake commitments of the most far-reaching character in Eastern Europe and to assume the leadership in organising resistance to further acts of aggression. That leadership cannot be allowed to fail, and we can note already that the task is being undertaken with the sympathy or active support of peace-loving nations everywhere.
