RUGBY FOOTBALL
RED STAR v. OPAKI. (By ‘'Touchline.”) In the match between Opaki and Red Star juniors right from the kickoff the Opaki forwards swarmed over their opponents and kept them defending for a long time. A great forward rush, headed by Roigard and Howie saw the former player go over for a try, Morgan failing with the kick. McKenzie secured from the line-out and dived over but the referee ruled a scrum five yards out. Stars took a turn at attacking which ended in Rippon going over for a try, which Grantham converted. Half-time sounded with Stars 5 points. Opaki 3. In the second spell the Red's had the best of play but there was no further score.
Morton. Ihaka, Wickens and Harman were conspicuous in the Star forwards. Morley. Rippon, Grantham and Mooney were safe in the backs. The Opaki forwards were in groat form. Howie was outstanding. Roigard is back to form. Taplin. Condon and Peters wore good in line-outs and dribbling rushes. Goodin, McKenzie, Allen and Seymour were splendid in scrum work. Chisnell’s absence disorganised the whole back line and continually shifting them to different positions spoilt all chances of combination. Clarke was doing well at half and should have stayed there, although'Hunt was safe in that position. Costello was hard to stop. M. Morgan, Gorringe and Grantham were all good in individual play. L. Morgan gained great praise from spectators for his splendid all-round display.
