CONTEST AT MASTERTON CATHOLIC CLUB v. MARISTS. WIN FOR LOCAL TEAM. A contest for the Marcus James Catholic Action Cup between the Masterton Catholic Club (holders) and the Marist Brothers Old Boys’ Association Debating Adjunct, Wellington, was held in Masterton. at the weekend. The clubs were represented as follow: —Marist Brothers Old Boys:—Debate, Messrs M. P. Keogh and P. McGavin; Oratory, Mr C. Power; Elocution, Mr P. O’Sullivan, Christian Doctrine, Mr J. Barnoe; impromptu speech, Mr M. P. Keogh. Masterton Catholic Club: —Debate, Mr J. Dwyer and Miss M. Dwyer; Oratory, Mr P. Hogan; Elocution, Miss M. Dwyer; Christian Doctrine, Mr P. Hogan; impromptu speech, Mr J. Dwyer. The Masterton Catholic Club team were awarded first place for Debate, Oratory, Elocution, and Christian Doctrine and Marist Brothers Old Boys were awarded first for Impromptu speech. The Masterton Club secured the largest number of points and retained the cup. “ Mr C. C. Marsack, Mr J. Conly and Rev Father Devlin were the adjudicators.
