BARLEY FOR PIOS

ADVICE REGARDING SUPPLIES. The necessity for pig farmers to advise merchants of their barley requirements in sufficient time to allow them to import the necessary amounts was strongly emphasised at the annual meeting of the National Pig Industry Council in Wellington. Complaints were made that barley supplies were insufficient to meet requirements. It was pointed out, however, that since the price was fixed and shipments were made regularly merchants were not likely to carry reserves; nor was it desirable, as deterioration of quality was continuous and could be minimised by holding as small a reserve as possible. The Internal Marketing Department pointed out that fewer disappointments would be experienced by the farmer and better service could be given by the merchants if the farmer would advise them of their barley requirements in sufficient time to allow them to indent appropriate supplies.
