MINIATURE RIFLES A CLOSE CONTEST. (“Times-Age” Special.) Fuge, 95; K. Fenwick, 94; total, 477. Featherston: Miss P. Nix, 98; W. Reed, 92; W. McLeod, 95; E. McKenzie, 97; J. Buck, 96; total, 478. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Featherston School Committee there were present:—Messrs J. W. Holland (chairman), C. C. Kenward (secretary), W. Jeffrey, F. A. O’Neale, J..W. Henderson, J. Higgison, C. Buck and C. J. Carly on. The Wellington Education Board wrote stating that the committee’s application for the use of the cooking department- would be considered at an early date, and that the committee’s recommendation in regard to the disposal of the old High School building would also be dealt with. The board also advised that a contract had been let to Messrs Finlay and Carter for the conveyance of school children from Kahutara, Pahautea and Kaiwaiwai. The Acting-Director General, Postal Dopartment, Wellington, wrote offering the school a gift of manual telephones for inter-communications in the school. It was decided to accept six instruments. The Secretary of the Wellington Education Board wrote asking if the committee would be likely to instal a picture projector within the next two years. It was pointed out this information was necessary so that a local manufacturer of these instruments would be able to meet the demand. The committee decided to consult the Home and School Association, and with , their approval to procure a picture projector. The treasurer of the Featherston Dental Clinic forwarded a balance sheet, which was considered highly satisfactory. The headmaster, Mr Hayes, reported that about 60 children are being supplied daily with hot cocoa. A very hearty vote of thanks was extended to Mr C. Buck for the gift of a 4-gallon boiler for heating purposes, and to Mr F. O’Neale for supplying a tap.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY CUP FOR COMPETITION. < Mr T. Hardie has presented the Featherston Horticultural Society with a. handsome challenge cup for competition in the pansy class. Ladies’ Golf. The following was the result of the ladies’ Stableford competition played on the Gum Grove links:—Mrs Staples 1, Mrs Benton, Miss M. Ruane and Miss M. Williams 2, Mrs J. B. Davis 3. Personal Items. Mrs J. Moriarit'y left yesterday for a holiday to be spent in Levin. Miss Connie Jeffrey and Miss Helen Seeley werg the two Featherston debutantes at the Charity Ball held in Town Hall, Wellington, on Wednesday night. Mrs S. W. Booth, Temuka, paid a short visit to Featherston this week. Mr W. V. Fountain, of the Bank of Australasia, left on Wednesday for Dunedin, where he will spend his annual leave. Band ,Concert. The date of the band concert to be presented in Featherston by the Masterton Municipal Band and assisting artists has been altered to Sunday, July 9. This change was necessitated by several members of the band being in camp on the date originally fixed. A splendid programme has been arranged, and some leading local artists will be contributing items.
