CHIEF JUDGE JONES

RETIREMENT AFTER LONG SERVICE. NATIVE LAND COURT FAREWELL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day. Chief Judge R. N. Jones, of the Native Land Court, was farewelled by staff of the Aotea Native Land Court today, tributes being paid by Mr H. Takarangi, of Putiki, an elder of the Maori race, who thanked Judge Jones on behalf of the Maoris of the Wanganui district for what he had done, and wished him many years of happiness in retirement. Judge J. Browne spoke of the happy associations of nearly 40 years with Judge Jones. Mr J. B. Jack, a former judge of the Native Land Court, referred to the courtesy Judge Jones had always shown to members of the legal profession. Stirring hakas were given by members of the Court staff, who sang “Now is the hour.”
