The opinion that the majority of Aucklanders did not realise the value of the asset they possessed in Rangitoto Island, was expressed on Saturday by Mr W. Wilson who has been an honorary ranger on the island for about 40 years, and is now aged 94. Auckland had no holiday refuge so close at hand to rival its natural beauty, he said, and the pleasantness of the walks through the native bush was enhanced by the unique character of the island's volcanic formation. Several prominent visitors to the city who had visited the island for scientific purposes had told him that they could not imagine why Rangitoto was not more used by the public
