CHEERING HUSHED ONLY AT CENOTAPH CROWD LINGERS AT PALACE. LONG-DISTANCE TELEVISION (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.)' LONDON, Juune 22. After family greetings on arrival at Waterloo, the King shook hands with Mr Chamberlain. The keynote of the crowds’ enthusiasm was the welcome home. Cheering was hushed as the carriage passed the Cenotaph. The King saluted, and the Queen bowed her head. Cheering broke out again when the King’s arm fell and continped down Whitehall and along the Mall. It is estimated that there were ovei' 50,000 people outside the Palace. Their Majesties had no sooner entered than the crowd began to chant: “We want the King!" alternating it with patriotic songs, until the Royal Family appeared. The crowd lingered singing until 8.40 p.m.-, when their Majesties again appeared on the balcony. Mr Bennett, a radio engineer in Guernsey, states that he saw their Majesties on the Palance balcony clearly on a television screen, a distance of 200 miles away.
