to the Japanese demand categorically refusing to remove warships or British subjects desiring to remain at Swatow. He emphasises that the British have a perfect right to remain and foreign ships a-right to trade, because Swatow is a treaty port. INSTRUCTIONS IGNORED. H.M.S. SCOUT ENTERS HARBOUR. (Received This Day. 9.45 a.m.) HONG KONG. June 22. H.M.S. Scout entered Swatow harbour and thus ignored Japanese naval instructions.
