RUGBY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA UNION MEETING OF COMMITTEE. PLAYER ORDERED TO STAND DOWN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union was held in the P. and A. Building, Carterton, last evening. Mr H. A. McPhee presiding over the following delegates. Messrs S. Henson, H. Benge. K. Reid, L. Pearson. H. B. Booth, C. A. Giay, M. J. Parker, K. G. Fairbrother. An apology was received from Mi V. Welch. L , . The treasurer’s statement showed a credit balance to date after accounts (£29 14s 8d) had been paid of £139 Is It was reported the takings at the gates for the Wairarapa-Marlborough match were the best since 1936. A Carterton player ordered off the field of play in the Old Boys-Carter-ton match for alleged indiscriminate kicking was ordered to stand down for one playing Saturday. A letter was received from Huxtable, a former Hawke’s Bay senior player, applying to be re-graded as a junior player to enable him to play the game with Featherston juniors, was nOt entertained although Huxtable had not played for 6 years. The Old Boys’ Club wrote asking for permission to play O. Hatton against Masterton on Saturday next. The request was not granted, Hatton not having qualified in connection with his residential rule. The same club asked to be allowed to play J. Eastwood before the fourteen days’ residential qualification had expired. This request was also refused. The secretary of the Greytown Club wrote asking for assistance for a player, R. G. Eaton, who had been injured early in the season and had not declared on the accident fund. It appears that this player received head injuries in a match and was further injured at night practice. He was in hispital in a bad way. It was resolved that he be declared on the funds and that the Greytown Club be asked to raise a- benefit for him which would undoubtedly be supported by thQ Union and other clubs.

A letter was received from the Masterton Club in reference to a referee, stating that they did not care to play under him. The letter was received. The Carterton Football Club wrote in regard to their diamond jubilee, asking that they be allowed the use of the Showgrounds free with power to charge admission at gate. The request was granted. A. Lane (Carterton), was re-graded from senior to junior.

Applications by D. Norman and J. McCarty for transfer from the Opaki Club to Masterton seniors was refused. The Masterton Club were granted permission to hold social evenings on the occasion of visiting representative teams to Masterton.

The Wairarapa Baseball Association wrote asking for a list of secretaries of clubs for the purpose of circularising them regarding the summer game. The information is to be supplied. School footballs were authorised to be forwarded to Taueru and Dyerville schools. The application of the Frontiersmen for use of Memorial Park and lights for drill purposes was granted. The Hawke’s Bay Union wrote thanking the Wairarapa officials for the courtesy and attention extended to their junior representatives while in Wairarapa. The secretary of the Manawatu Union wrote regarding the annual fixture and inviting Wairarapa to play Manawatu at Palmerston North on September 19. The date was approved subject to no other fixture clashing. A vote of condolence was passed to Mr T. AV. Mabin in his recent bereavement, all members standing as a mark of respect.

The Wellington Union wrote in regard to their junior representatives playing Wairarapa this year, and suggesting that the game be played as a curtain-raiser to one of the senior representative games on or after August 19. It was decided to agree to the proposal if arrangements can be made. Mr H. B. Booth was appointed manager of Wairarapa senior team to play Bush at Pahiatua on July 8. Transport for this game was left to the secretary to arrange. It was resolved that the lower grade games be played as listed on July 8. Mr K. Reid was appointed manager of Wairarapa team to play Hawke’s Bay at Masterton on July 15, and Mr G. Udy is to manage the junior team

when they visit Napier on the same date.

It was decided that the gate charges lor the match with Hawke's Bay be: Gate. Is 6d; stand, Is. It was resolved that the curtain-raiser to this game be North v. South (seniors). Mr E. Grantham will referee the representative game and Mr Eric Miller the North v. South match. Mr Henson was appointed manager for the North team and Mr K. G. Fairbrother of the South team. The question of securing jerseys was left to Messrs Booth and Hensen to arrange.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to those who had provided cars for a trip round the district on the occasion of the visit of the Marlborough team.
