ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY
FIRST CONCERT OF SEASON. The first concert for the 1939 season of the Masterton Orchestral Society is evidently being awaited with a great deal of interest, judging from the numerous inquiries made with regard to the programme. There is certainly no lack of interest in the group of works to be submitted for the approval of the audience next Tuesday evening. To begin with, there is one of the brightest and j oiliest'symphonies of Joseph Haydn. Two contrasting marches, the elegant “Cinderella’s Bridal Procession” by Decker, and the rousing “Cornelius” March by Mendelssohn, the evergreen “William Tell” Overture, a pair of pianoforte favourites transcribed for orchestras in Moszkowski’s “Serenata” and the celebrated “Minuet in G” of Paderewski, a lovely “Slumber Song” by Squire, and a dainty Parisian piece “Mademoiselle Chic,” by Percy Fletcher, combine to make such a delectable feast as will leave no taste unsatisfied. Another special feature of the concert will be the introduction to Masterton of a new singer. Mr C. A. Clement, until recently of Adelaide, South Australia. Mr Clement should be firmly established as a popular favourite. To add further to the interest of the occasion, it will be the first concert under the direction of the. newly-ap-pointed conductor,' Mr C. W. Kerry, who has certainly spared no effort to bring his willing band of musicians to their highest pitch of excellence.
