JOHNSONVILLE SALE

READY MARKET FOR PRIME CATTLE. LITTLE CHANGE IN SHEEP VALUES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An average yarding of cattle and a large yarding of sheep were offered by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd, at the live stock sale held in Johnsonville yesterday. The bullocks penned were chiefly heavyweight- cattle, with a few pens of light and mediumweight. Prime heavyweight bullocks met with keen competition, prices showing a slight firming on last week. Mediumweight cattle were on a par, and lightweight cattle slightly easier. A few pens of prime extra heavy cows and heifers came forward. These met with a ready sale, prices showing no alteration'. Unfinished cattle were hard to sell. There was a good demand for prime quality calves, prices being 5s a head above those ruling last week, and unfinished runners and vealers were slightly easier. Small calves met with a good sale, prices showing no alteration. No heavy wethers came forward, the penning comprising chiefly lightweight and unfinished wethers. Prime quality sheep sold readily with prices on a par with last week’s: Plain and unfinished wethers were hard to sell, even at reduced rates. Several pens of extra heavy ewes were yarded.
